Corrugated steel silo is a kind of metal silo assembled by connecting corrugated sheets with high-strength bolts, the corrugated sheet is a kind of sheet made by mechanical rolling, molding, and punching.

When using high-strength bolts to connect such corrugated plates, an electric torque wrench is required.

Corrugated grain bins can be customized for different grain/seed types, silo diameter, and silo capacity.

This type of steel farm silo is mainly used to store granular grains & seeds, such as wheat, corn, rice, poly grain, barley, sunflower seeds, etc., and is widely used in the agricultural industry.

Corrugated sheets are generally composed of galvanized high-elastic S350GD steel.

The galvanized layer thickness is usually 0.8mm-4.2mm, the maximum coating thickness can reach 600g/m2, and the maximum wall thickness can reach 8.4mm.

What is the purpose of a grain silo?

Grain silos are storage equipment commonly used in agriculture, farmers purchase grain bins and silos to store grains, seeds, or fermented feed, but they are more commonly used to store grains & seeds.

Store the grain in the silo bin, wait until the grain price rises to a psychological level, then sell the grain.

Farm grain silo not only solves the storage problem for farmers but also improve the grain storage quality.

The farm grain silo can effectively prevent the powder from directly polluting the air, and can also prevent moisture from entering, avoid material agglomeration, protect the material better.

How does a grain silo work?

Speaking of how grain bin works, it actually mainly refers to how grain bin loads material, unloads material, and prevents grain mildew.

Whether it is a flat bottom silo or a hopper bottom silo, the material is loaded from the loading port on the roof, the silo bin is usually equipped with a level sensor to monitor the material level in real-time;

When unloading, the material is discharged from the center discharge port at the bottom.

After discharging most of the material, the auger sweeps the remaining material to the intermediate discharge port for emptying.

Auger grain bin

Auger grain bins are actually flat bottomed bins, flat bottom bins must be equipped with a sweep auger for unloading material, but hopper bottom bins don’t need it, because grain automatically flows out of hopper bottom bin under gravity.

Sweep auger is a horizontal spiral cleaner that rotates around the center of the silo, it pushes the remaining grain to the intermediate discharge ports for final emptying.

Grain drying silos

The so-called grain drying silos are actually agricultural silos with a drying system, this drying system usually includes hot air fans, vertical stirring augers, and so on.

Grain bin level sensors

The material level sensor measures the interface position between the materials and the gas in the storage container or industrial equipment.

It is mainly used to measure the grain level in agricultural silos, the coal level in thermal power plants, the cement level in cement plants.

Nowadays, the commonly used material level sensors include weighing, heavy hammer, capacitive, microwave, ultrasonic types, etc., the commonly used material level sensor in the agricultural silo is the ultrasonic type.

Each agriculture silo is equipped with high & low position level sensors, these level sensors must be protected to prevent the grain from impacting it.

The level sensor’s mounting hole is well sealed, then the entire level sensor can be easily extracted for inspection & maintenance.

What is the difference between silo and hopper?

Putting silo and hopper together, according to the explanation in the formal dictionary, there must be a difference between them.

But from the perspective of industry cognition, hopper is more like a classification under the silo, in order to distinguish it from the flat bottom silo.

The difference between a hopper bottom silo & a flat bottom silo is mainly reflected in their bottom shape.
